Cambridge ESOL Exam: The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
 
     
 
The Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), as the name indicates, is an exam course aimed at applicants who have reached an advanced level of competence in the English language.

Students completing the CAE exam will have the capability to use English with confidence in social, professional and higher educational contexts. Students will develop the ability to express clear opinions and construct persuasive arguments in English in order to make an effective contribution in practical situations such as meetings and discussions. The written element of the exam assesses candidates' ability to produce professional communication materials such as business letters and reports.

* 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, 3pm-6pm (3 hours a day from Monday to Friday)
* Some classes may be available on weekends and evenings

 Duration * 12 weeks
    
 Course structure The course is structured to prepare students for the five components of the CAE exam: Reading; Writing; Use of English; Listening and Speaking
    
 Assessment

* The CAE exams are comprised of five papers (Reading; Writing; Use of   English;   Listening and Speaking)
* Exams are taken externally at an authorised Cambridge ESOL examination   centre. There are three opportunities a year to sit the exams. These fall in   March, May/June and November/December.
    
 Entry requirements
One of the following:

* Williams College General English (Upper Intermediate level).
* Cambridge First Certificate in English pass.
* IELTS score of 5.5+

If arriving after studying at another institution students may need to take a computerised placement test and oral assessment to confirm that they have the ability to study at CAE level.
