News: Cultural Day Extravaganza

I think everybody learnt new and wonderful things at “Cultural Day” on the 25th September. For some of us it was learning how to say “Hello” in another language. By the end our Hello Game we were greeting each other with Georgian “gamardjoba”s, Turkish “merhaba”s, Catalan “hola”s and greetings in many many more languages.
For others it was learning how different cultures move to music – which brings us to the “Dancing Competition”! We had a wonderful taste of Indian, Georgian, Peruvian, Congolese and South American (salsa and samba) dancing. Congratulations to the winners Wayler Rojas and Karol Torres for their Peruvian dance performance. They wow-ed us with beautiful outfits and a wonderful array of unique dance moves.

Leven Lapachidze has to be mentioned as well for his Georgian dancing performance. From Levan’s energetic performance, I think Georgians need to be especially fit to be good at their cultural dances. Well done to all of you!

Leven shows us how Georgian dancing is done.
The other thing we learnt a lot about was food from other countries. I could tell we learnt quickly too because the food, which was brought at 11am was all gone by 12.30pm! I think that lesson was enjoyed by all present. But especially enjoyable was Rosina’s Italian tiramisu, Angela Church’s South African Babotie and Nattawan’s mother’s amazing Thai dish – just a few highlights of the amazing variety of food that was present on the table.
Septis and Luis- dressed up for the occasion
Which brings us to the Cultural Day Fashion Show: High on the list of well dressed models was Congolese Septis Bafandza and lecturer Luis Alfonso Restrepo. Both made students shout with appreciation as they walked down the “catwalk”. Congratulations to Septis and Anju who both won prizes for their amazing outfits.
